Patrick
Canady

Computer science and electrical engineering grad who likes working with teams to design, build, and ship high-value products. I like getting to the root of how things work, finding ways to improve them, and building the next version. That has taken me from FPGA designs to embedded hardware to a camera system that follows athletes around a mat, blending software and hardware to solve real problems.

Grappler Camera System

Aug 2025 — May 2026
Hardware Lead · distributed embedded + computer vision

Led a multidisciplinary team building an autonomous multi-camera tracking platform for combat sports. Each Raspberry Pi 5 node runs real-time YOLO11n-pose inference on a live feed and drives PCA9685 servo HATs to keep athletes centered in frame, coordinated by a Flask/Socket.IO server over a custom inter-node protocol. Owned hardware design and integration across the full lifecycle, plus the operation and evidence manuals and scholarship-in-practice submission.

Power-Aware Systolic MAC Array

Jan — Apr 2026
RTL Designer · FPGA / digital design

Designed a fully synthesizable 3×3 output-stationary systolic MAC array in Verilog with wavefront clock gating and DVFS-style power modes (FULL / HALF / SLEEP) on a Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+. Led the RTL for the activity tracker, clock-gate controller, and mode FSM. Closed timing at 100 MHz (WNS = +6.98 ns) and demonstrated up to 10× lower switching activity versus the ungated baseline, validated across 12 post-implementation power scenarios.

C++ Autograding Framework

2024 — 2026
Systems Tool · in active use each semester

A modular, extensible autograding engine: compiler diagnostics, rubric-driven deduction tracking with scope capping, libclang AST static analysis, automated program I/O testing, and LLM-assisted review (Ollama / qwen3:14b) for subjective criteria. A batch interactive interface adds back-navigation, skip controls, and deduction undo — collapsing 800+ lines of one-off scripting per assignment down to ~150-line rubric files.

Experience

Florida State University Aug 2023 — May 2026 Dept. of Computer Science · Tallahassee, FL

Teaching Assistant & Tool Developer

COP 3014 · COP 3363 · COP 3330 · CGS 2100
  • Spent 3 academic years as a teaching assistant for 4 CS courses, helping 100+ students per semester through weekly recitations on C++, data structures, algorithm analysis, and debugging.
  • Architected a production-grade Python autograding framework from scratch — modular rubrics, libclang AST analysis, automated I/O testing, and LLM-assisted review — cutting per-assignment engineering time by ~80%.
  • Scoped, designed, tested, and iterated on the tooling with no direct supervision, operating as technical owner of a system course staff rely on each semester.
BST Global May 2023 — Aug 2023 Internship · Tampa, FL

Data Consultant

ERP data conversion · SQL ETL
  • Migrated client project data from legacy platforms into BST Global's ERP system, working through complex data-mapping challenges with SQL-based ETL workflows.
  • Independently built an Excel-based machine checkout tool with embedded scripting to eliminate scheduling conflicts, with full user and developer documentation.
  • Presented data-conversion progress in 3 formal stakeholder presentations and ran daily Agile stand-ups with cross-functional teams.
